Moving better post-Prednisone

We started giving him the muscle supplement but have to wait a week for the Prednisone to get completely out of his system before we can restart the anti-inflammatory meds. Gizmo has been getting himself up to go out and potty when he needs to, and we’ve gotten him in the cart to go on some longer walks. Ending the Prednisone does seem to have made a real difference and I’m so glad we’re off of it now. He even got up to come greet me at the door when I came home from work one day! His appetite comes and goes, but throughout the week he’s eating enough to not be losing weight.

We get these signs that give us hope that we can get him back into a good state and we should keep going. Yet he is still limping badly on the back right leg. He’s obviously in pain, and he still spends the bulk of his day laying around preferring not to move. The summer heat probably isn’t helping right now. The bedroom is the only room with AC so even if he wasn’t in pain he’d probably be preferring to relax in there.

Is he happy? Yes. Is he living with pain that affects his quality of life? Also yes. I’m counting down the days to be able to get him back on the Galliprant to see if it makes a difference in managing his pain. Being off of it for almost 2 months has been rough, but it was necessary to get the cancer in remission. When he started the Prednisone, it seemed like a miracle that made him feel better, but that was short-lived. Fingers crossed that the muscle supplement, anti-inflammatory, and some cooler weather will get him moving a little more soon.
